According to a recent digital news report by Reuters, the use of social media as a source of news continues to increase, with 51% of survey respondents stating that they use social media to get news, up from 47% in 2022. However, trust in social media as a news source remains low, with only 23% of respondents saying they trust social media for news.

The report also found that the COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on news consumption, with 76% of respondents stating that they have been following news related to the pandemic more closely than they did for other news topics. Additionally, the report found that podcast listening has increased, with 41% of respondents saying they have listened to a podcast in the past month, up from 36% in 2022.

The report also highlighted the importance of diversity in newsrooms, with 42% of respondents stating that they would be more likely to pay for news if the news organization had a more diverse staff. Finally, the report found that overall trust in news remains low, with only 44% of respondents saying they trust most news most of the time.
