Apple will increasingly move production of its iPhones from China to India. According to Tianfeng International analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the base iPhone 17 will be the first Apple smartphone in history to begin development outside of China.
According to the analyst, the process will start in the second half of 2024, and the smartphone will be released in the fall of 2025. The base iPhone 17 is chosen in this case due to its lower development complexity.
If Apple goes according to plan, by 2024 the share of iPhones produced in India will grow to 20-25%. At the same time, it is expected that by 2024, iPhone production volumes by Foxconn in Zhengzhou and Taiwan will be reduced by 35–45% and 75–85%, respectively.
It is worth noting that by development, Kuo most likely means the development of production processes, and not the iPhone itself, since the phone is in any case developed by Apple itself, clearly not doing it in China or India.
