AirCar 2: The First Certified Flying Car Ready for Mass Production in 2026

Klein Vision, a Slovakian startup founded by Professor Štefan Klein, is set to launch AirCar 2 — the first certified flying car designed for mass production. This innovative vehicle transforms from a car to an airplane in 90 seconds, reaching speeds up to 250 km/h in the air and 160 km/h on roads, with a flight range of 1,000 kilometers per fuel tank. AirCar 2 has passed rigorous testing, earning certification from the Slovak Transport Authority under European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) standards after more than 70 hours of flight time.

The AirCar 2’s design includes a lightweight composite body, hydraulically operated telescopic wings, and a 160-horsepower BMW engine. This dual-mode vehicle combines road legality with airworthiness certification, making it a practical solution for future urban mobility and intercity travel. Mass production is planned to start in 2026, with prices beginning at approximately $800,000.

Founded in 2019 and headquartered in Nitra, Slovakia, Klein Vision is led by CEO and CTO Štefan Klein and co-founder Anton Zajac. The company has progressed from earlier prototypes, successfully completing intercity test flights such as the one between Nitra and Bratislava airports. Klein Vision recently sold a regional production license to a Chinese company, indicating plans for international expansion. Future AirCar models under development include three- and four-seater variants, twin-engine configurations, and amphibious options.

Operating the AirCar requires compliance with existing aviation regulations for light aircraft. Pilots must hold private pilot licenses, and flights operate mainly under Visual Flight Rules (VFR) from certified airports. The vehicle adheres to strict safety and maintenance standards, integrating with current air traffic control systems. Regulatory frameworks for flying cars continue to evolve, but Klein Vision’s certification marks a major step toward mainstream adoption.

AirCar 2 aims to reduce urban traffic congestion and provide efficient transportation alternatives between cities. Though the current price targets high-end customers, it represents a pivotal advancement in flying car technology. As mass production kicks off in 2026, Klein Vision is poised to lead the emerging market of certified flying cars, revolutionizing the future of personal and urban mobility.
