Oleksandr Usyk Scores Knockout Victory Over Daniel Dubois Despite ‘Low Blow’ Controversy

In a thrilling boxing match that kept fans on the edge of their seats, Ukrainian champion Oleksandr Usyk managed to secure victory over Daniel Dubois despite a contentious ruling surrounding a fifth-round “low blow.” The clash not only showcased Usyk’s determination but also kept the much-anticipated undisputed fight with Tyson Fury alive.

Usyk, who put all three of his titles – WBA, WBO, and IBF – on the line for the second time, dominated the first four rounds. However, a punch slightly below the belt from Dubois in the fifth round created controversy. Referee Luis Pabon deemed the punch illegal and gave Usyk five minutes to recover.

Seizing the opportunity, Usyk regrouped and returned to the ring, maintaining his dominance for another four rounds. He faced off against the young WBA ‘Regular’ champion, who aimed to unify the governing body championship.

Despite Dubois’ impressive performance, it was Usyk who ultimately triumphed. In the ninth round, Usyk unleashed a powerful right hook to Dubois’ face, sending him to the canvas. With the referee’s count reaching ten and only 48 seconds left on the clock, the fight was called to a halt.

Reflecting on his victory, Usyk acknowledged the challenges of boxing: “Boxing is a tough sport, but I’m big. I’m in love with boxing and the ring, but it’s boxing and not ballet.” Usyk’s victory further solidified his undefeated record, now standing at 21-0 with 14 knockouts.

Looking ahead to the much-anticipated bout with Tyson Fury, who has a scheduled fight against MMA fighter Francis Ngannou on October 28, Usyk expressed readiness: “I’m ready tomorrow, whenever Tyson wants, next fight I want Fury. But when he’s ready for me, I have no idea.”
