Huawei Mate 80 will come out after the iPhone 17 and give up curved screens

The Huawei Mate 80 series of smartphones is expected late in the fourth quarter of 2025, after the release of the iPhone 17, as reported by insider Digital Chat Station.

The lineup will include four models: the Mate 80, Mate 80 Pro, Mate 80 Pro+ and Mate 80 RS. The devices will have flat screens with 1.5K resolution and 6.74- and 6.85-inch diagonal screens with narrow bezels.

The Pro model will retain the screen with three holes for 3D facial recognition. The standard version will have one hole, without support for this technology.

Huawei is moving away from screens with curves around the edges, favoring straight displays that are easier to use and maintain. This trend is noticeable in other manufacturers such as Samsung, whose flagships have also returned to flat screens. Straight screens reduce the likelihood of accidental touches and make it easier to apply a protective film.

The Mate 80 smartphones will come with HarmonyOS operating system pre-installed.
